Shepherd's Cross Christian Helps Ministry
(1 Corinthians 12:28)

Following in the footsteps of the Acts of the Apostles, written by St. Luke, Shepherd's Cross Christian Helps Ministry exists by the grace of God to further the first century Apostolic tradition serving in the Great Commission.

(St. Matthew 28:16-20)

Ah now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech John 16:29 (ESV)

I’m very fond of idiomatic expressions. A most popular idiom I grew up with is…”It’s raining cats and dogs.” I routinely added, “Watch out not to step in a poodle.” My childhood pet, Shadow, a poodle I received as a pet from my dad may not have liked that. I’m sorry Shadow. Nevertheless, idiomatic expressions are really cool in my book.

Jargon and lingo, being a specific vocabulary used by a group of people may be considered idioms as well. Being born-again Christians we may use idiomatic expressions all the time. We may make use of our Christian idiomatic expressions habitually during private devotional times with God, during fellowship times with one another, as well as times of sharing our faith with unbelievers.

By using popular Christian jargon and lingo 1) we may in fact not be conscious that those with whom we are sharing may not have any idea what we are attempting to communicate with them any more that those that Jesus spoke to in parables understood. 2) By using popular Christian jargon and lingo upon those we love the most and want desperately to be brought to salvation since they are unfamiliar with these idiomatic expressions may actually be an impediment.

Being born-again Christian believers, we, as individuals, are accountability of what we articulate to those that are not believers as well as to our brothers and sisters in the Christian faith. We have the responsibility therefore to learn what the Bible being the Word of God says and not confuse God’s message.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-20 (NKJV)

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2: 1-16 (NKJV)
